Fodder Beet

These trials looked at using EM in both conventional and biological systems (Daly M. J., EMNZ Fodder beet Trial 2014) (Daly M. J., EMNZ Fodder beet Trial Ashcroft 2015) (Daly M. J., EMNZ Fodder beet Trial Seaton 2015) (Daly M. J., EMNZ Fodder beet Trial 2016) and were conducted in Canterbury, New Zealand on Fodder beet. Fodder beet is a crop that has become popular due to its yields and as an important part of dairy cow winter feeding systems. The trials were analysed by Dr Tim Jenkins, a summary of the results is as follows:

  • The trials conducted from 2014 – 2017 showed great results with an average increase in yield of 19% across 5 different trials.
  • EM treatments gave a significant increase over control.
  • Nitrogen enhanced EM (EMN-RTU), looks promising.
  • Reducing N inputs by 50% and combining EM looks to be a viable option as half rate of N with EM performed as good or better than a full rate
